Infectious Diseases Summit
Uniting for a Healthier World
Accordia Global Health Foundation’s Infectious Diseases Summit addresses the dire need for international strategies to build healthcare capacity in Africa, to combat the immediate health and security threat posed by HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other infectious disease. The Summit convenes representatives from the most senior levels of academic medical schools, foundations and NGOs, developed and developing country governments, and the private sectors. These individuals and the organizations they represent bring the will and the ability to implement large-scale, cross-sector initiatives to develop a new generation of healthcare leadership in Africa.
Summit 2009
The Summit will be a 2-day meeting April 20-22, 2009 in Kampala, Uganda. Participation is by invitation only and will be limited to 50-100 high-level individuals from governmental institutions, academia, NGOs, and industry, with significant representation from African organizations.
The Infectious Diseases Summit series embraces its participants' shared goal to build long-term healthcare capacity in Africa. This year's Summit will have the theme Building Healthcare Leadership in Africa: Preparing individuals and institutions for leadership roles in healthcare policy, education and research. Because of the central role they play in developing such capacity, African academic medical centers will be an area of special focus.
The agenda will focus around three interrelated tracks to build health leadership in Africa:
- The Individual: Identifying, nurturing, and retaining leaders at all levels in global health
- The Institution: Enhancing organizational capacity to lead and influence health policy and practice
- The Network: Fostering south-to-south collaboration and innovation
